Jadon Sancho's Next Move: Exploring Options Abroad

Jadon Sancho is leaning towards a move abroad as he weighs up his next step, despite concrete interest from Premier League clubs.

Six weeks on from the expiry of his Manchester United contract, the 26-year-old winger is a free agent with options on the table and a clear preference: a fresh start outside England. He is understood to be open to all proposals, but the pull of a move overseas is strong.

One familiar name has already emerged. Borussia Dortmund, the club where Sancho first exploded onto the European stage and where he has made 158 appearances across two spells, are believed to be among those monitoring his situation. They sold him to United for £73m in 2021; now they could yet be part of his reset.

Sancho’s recent club journey has been anything but straightforward.

Loan at Aston Villa

Last season he spent the campaign on loan at Aston Villa, making 39 appearances as Unai Emery’s side surged into the Champions League and lifted the Europa League. Sancho featured as a late substitute in the victory over Freiburg, adding another appearance to a remarkable run of three European finals in three seasons.

Time at Chelsea

The year before that, he was at Chelsea.

The England attacker played 41 times during the 2024-25 season for the west London club, in a deal that initially included an obligation to buy. Chelsea, though, chose a different route, paying a £5m penalty to send him back to Manchester United instead of making the move permanent.

Now, with his Old Trafford chapter officially closed, Sancho is keeping himself sharp away from the spotlight. He has been training with non-league side Flixton to maintain fitness while the market moves around him.

A winger once valued at £73m, a former Dortmund star, an England international working on his touch at a non-league ground. The next contract he signs will say plenty about where his career is heading.
