Inter's Bid for Spurs Defender Spence Amid Price Standoff
Inter have made their move for Tottenham full-back Spence, launching a formal opening bid and pushing their way to the front of the queue for the 25-year-old.
After a frantic summer of Premier League trading, Spurs look increasingly open to a sale. Spence has slipped down Roberto De Zerbi’s pecking order despite his strong reputation with England and a standout World Cup, and a clean break now suits all sides.
Inter show their hand
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that Inter have tabled an offer worth over €30 million as they look to strengthen Christian Chivu’s defensive options. It is a statement bid from the Nerazzurri and a clear signal they want Spence as a key piece of their backline rebuild.
The move would bring the former Nottingham Forest standout back to Serie A. He previously spent time on loan at Genoa, a spell that helped build his profile on the continent and left a positive impression in Italy.
This time, the move has the player’s full backing. According to GiveMeSport, Spence has reached total agreement on personal terms with the Milan club, underlining his determination to test himself again in Serie A and escape a crowded full-back rotation in north London.
Spurs hold firm on valuation
The deal is not done yet. Tottenham are ready to negotiate, but not at any price.
Inter’s proposal, understood to be around €30m (£25.6m), falls short of Spurs’ demands. Reports indicate the club want at least €35m (£30m) plus performance-related add-ons, a figure they feel better reflects Spence’s status after his World Cup performances and the level of interest in him across the Premier League.
Tottenham’s stance is also shaped by their own busy window. The club have overhauled their defensive unit, bringing in Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, while first-choice right-back Pedro Porro has committed his future by signing a new long-term contract.
That combination leaves Spence boxed in. Robertson, Destiny Udogie and Porro are all ahead of him in the full-back hierarchy, and regular minutes at Spurs look increasingly distant.
Premier League interest fades as Inter surge ahead
Spence’s situation has not gone unnoticed in England. Manchester United and Liverpool were both linked with the defender at various points in the window, raising the prospect of a domestic tug-of-war.
That battle never truly materialised. Romano has clarified that Liverpool’s interest was exaggerated and that talks between the two parties never advanced to a serious stage. With Anfield cooling and no concrete bid emerging from Old Trafford, the path has opened up for Inter.
The Italian club have moved quickly into what looks like a decisive phase. They have the player’s approval in their pocket and a substantial offer on the table. Now it comes down to the numbers.
If Tottenham soften their stance or Inter edge closer to that €35m mark with add-ons, Spence could soon be trading north London for the San Siro and reigniting his career in Serie A. The next move belongs in the boardroom.
