Hull City Near Deal for Roma's Robinio Vaz

Hull City are pushing hard to land Roma forward Robinio Vaz, with the newly promoted Premier League side close to agreeing a season-long loan that carries a huge buy option.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Hull are in advanced talks over a deal worth around €2m for the loan, with an option to make the move permanent for a further €30m. For a 19-year-old who has yet to start regularly in Serie A, it is a bold play.

For Roma, the numbers make immediate sense. They paid Marseille €25m for Vaz in the winter window earlier this year. If Hull trigger the option, the Italian club would bank an instant profit on a player they have barely had time to bed in.

Vaz arrived in Rome on the back of a breakout spell in Ligue 1. At the start of the 2025-26 season with Marseille, he scored four goals and supplied two assists in just 14 league appearances, form that convinced Roma to move quickly midway through the campaign.

Game time in Italy has been harder to come by. Used exclusively from the bench in Serie A, Vaz made 12 league appearances for Roma and added a single goal to his seasonal tally. Flashes of talent, but no extended run.

Even so, the teenager has already produced moments that underline why clubs are willing to gamble. At Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in February, he cut a frustrated figure as Roma struggled against Napoli. A month later at Stadio Olimpico, he was the one celebrating, on the scoresheet against Lecce and mobbed by teammates.

The wider backdrop in Rome is just as intriguing. All summer there have been suggestions that financial fair play would force Roma into at least one major sale. Yet, heading into the final week of the Serie A window, their headline names remain in place. Manu Kone, Wesley and Matias Soule are all still on the books.

If Hull get this over the line and Vaz explodes in the Premier League, Roma’s restraint in the market – and their timing with this deal – could look very smart indeed.
