Valencia are pushing hard to land Harvey Elliott in what could become one of the most intriguing moves of the summer.
The Spanish club have made the Liverpool midfielder their priority target to sharpen Carlos Corberán’s attack, with the 23-year-old slipping down the pecking order at Anfield under Andoni Iraola.
Elliott wants Valencia move
Negotiations between Liverpool, Valencia and the player are already under way, with all sides aiming to close a deal quickly, according to journalist Matteo Moretto. Reports indicate Elliott has told Iraola he wants to leave Anfield for Mestalla, and there is a growing sense of optimism that a loan agreement can be sealed.
Corberán has taken a hands-on role. Spanish newspaper Marca reports that the Valencia coach phoned Elliott personally to sell him the project. The conversation worked: the England international is described as eager to embrace La Liga and wear the Valencia shirt.
Inside the club, the plan is clear. Executives see Elliott as the creative spark to prise open deep defences, a midfielder who can carry the ball, commit opponents and chip in with goals from the second line.
Loan frustration at Villa
Elliott heads into this potential move off the back of a frustrating spell at Aston Villa last season. On paper, it looked like a chance to explode under Unai Emery. In reality, it never took off.
He played only nine matches in all competitions. One more appearance would have activated a clause obliging Villa to sign him permanently for £35 million. That figure hung over the loan. Emery later admitted that the lack of minutes weighed heavily on the player before he returned to Liverpool in the summer.

Elliott’s situation is a sharp contrast to his earlier Liverpool years. Since arriving from Fulham in 2019, he has made 149 appearances for the club and was a central piece in Jürgen Klopp’s farewell season, featuring 53 times across competitions.
Then the landscape shifted. First under Arne Slot and now under Iraola, Elliott has slid out of the inner circle. The clearest signal came in Liverpool’s latest match against Newcastle, when he was left out of the squad altogether. Selection spoke louder than any words: other options now stand ahead of him.
