Galatasaray Revives Interest in Rafael Leao as Milan Lowers Demands

Galatasaray have circled back to Rafael Leao and are back in deep talks with Milan, with multiple outlets in Italy and Turkiye reporting renewed negotiations – even if no formal, written bid has landed on Milan’s desk yet.

The situation has shifted in recent days. Milan had initially set the bar at around €50m plus €10m in add-ons, but the lack of any club willing to meet that figure has forced the Rossoneri to reassess their demands. The asking price is now understood to be dropping towards a package below €50m plus bonuses, a change that has immediately reopened the door for serious conversations.

Galatasaray’s renewed push for Leao comes after a failed swing at another Premier League star. Their €45m offer for Gabriel Martinelli was rejected by Arsenal, who also made it clear the Brazilian had no interest in a move to Istanbul. With that avenue firmly closed, attention has snapped back to Leao.

Reports from Sportitalia and journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu describe “intensive” talks between Galatasaray and Milan over the Portuguese forward. The Turkish giants are not alone in having tested the waters: Benfica, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray have all approached Milan in recent weeks. None of those contacts progressed to a formal written offer, with the gap between Milan’s valuation and the proposals on the table judged far too wide.

That gap is shrinking now. As Milan ease their demands, clubs that had previously stepped back are finding the numbers more realistic, and Galatasaray have moved quickest to exploit the opening.

Leao and Milan had both expected a different market. Once it became clear he was available, the camp around the 25-year-old hoped one of Europe’s elite from the top five leagues would make a decisive move. That wave of interest never arrived. No major club has yet turned early admiration into a concrete bid, leaving a player of Champions League calibre weighing up offers from outside the traditional power centres.

Milan, for their part, are running out of time and options. Leao’s contract at San Siro expires in June 2028 and there is, at this stage, no intention on the player’s side to extend. With renewal off the table, the logic inside the club is clear: sell this summer or risk watching his value erode year by year.

So the talks continue. The numbers are coming down. Galatasaray are back at the table.

Now the question is simple: who will be brave enough to put the first offer in writing?
