FIFA Reports Record $9.89 Billion Spent in Global Summer Transfer Window

Following the 2026 World Cup, FIFA revealed extraordinary transfer activity across both men's and women's football worldwide. English clubs stood out as the largest spenders in a market that saw over 12,500 international transfers for men alone.

Men's Transfers Hit New High

Between June 1 and September 2, the men's international transfer market reached a record $9.89 billion, with more than 12,500 deals completed globally. This marks the highest spending ever recorded in a single summer window.

Women's Football Shows Rapid Growth

The women's game also surged forward, with 1,406 international transfers registered during the same period. Spending more than doubled from 2025 levels to $28.6 million, reflecting the sport’s swift expansion around the world.

Impact of the 2026 World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup acted as a major driver behind this surge in transfers. Players from 47 nations who participated in the North American tournament were involved in moves during the window, totaling 267 transfers. These players accounted for over $3.3 billion in combined fees, as the tournament offered a global stage to boost their market value.

English Clubs Lead Transfer Market

• English clubs: Spent $3.02 billion on men's transfers and led in incoming deals.
• Italian clubs: Came second with $1.1 billion in spending.
• French clubs: Recorded the highest outgoing transfer fees at $1.7 billion.

In women’s football, English teams again topped the spending chart with $8.0 million, followed by Spain and Germany. On the selling side, Swedish clubs earned the most, receiving $4.2 million in transfer fees, ahead of English and French clubs.
