Talks between the clubs have entered their decisive phase. PSG tied up personal terms with the forward some time ago; now only the exact structure of the transfer fee needs to be signed off. The operation is expected to close at around €55 million.

For Barcelona, that figure is significant. Offloading a player with just one year left on his contract for that amount is viewed internally as sharp business, even if it means saying goodbye to a World Cup final hero and one of last season’s key performers.

Ferran out, Rodri in?

Barcelona’s push for Rodri remains one of the major storylines of their summer. The Catalan club have already sent Manchester City a second proposal worth €60 million, combining a fixed fee with performance-related variables, after seeing an initial €50 million bid rejected.

The answer from England has not changed. Reports indicate City have also turned down this improved offer, holding firm over the value of one of their central pillars.

Barcelona, though, are not walking away. The plan is to return with a third, decisive bid in the region of €70 million: €60 million guaranteed and €10 million in add-ons. The money from Ferran’s sale is central to that strategy, easing both the financial outlay and the constraints of squad registration.
