Driouech's Rangers Move Fails: PSV Faces Financial Setback

Couhaib Driouech’s switch to Rangers has fallen through at the final hurdle, sending the winger back to PSV and leaving both clubs with more questions than answers.

The 24-year-old had already made the trip to Scotland, expecting to seal the move in Glasgow in recent days. Instead, negotiations broke down and the deal is off, Eindhovens Dagblad reporter Rik Elfrink reported on Friday.

For PSV, the collapse is not just a sporting setback. The Eindhoven club now wave goodbye to a potential fee of up to €8 million. That money will not be coming in, and Driouech will be returning to Eindhoven.

What exactly went wrong behind closed doors has not yet come to light. What is clear: Driouech will not be playing for Rangers and will report back to PSV.

It is another painful entry on PSV’s transfer list. Driouech becomes the fourth failed outgoing move in just five months, following collapsed deals involving Ricardo Pepi, Adamo Nagalo and Armando Obispo. The pattern is hard to ignore.

Uncertain Role Back in Eindhoven

A fresh start at PSV does not automatically await Driouech. So far this season, injury has already kept him out of the opening matches, and his standing in the squad has shifted.

In his absence, academy product Amir Bouhamdi has stepped forward. The youngster has impressed enough to move ahead of Driouech in the pecking order and is set to sign a new contract at the Philips Stadion soon. The message is blunt: the competition on the wings is only getting tougher.

For now, there is little to suggest Driouech will play a major role again in the short term. He returns to a dressing room that has moved on without him, while PSV’s sporting and financial plans both take a hit.

PSV Turn Back to the Pitch

There is no time for PSV to dwell. On Saturday evening, they travel to face Excelsior, kicking off at 20:00. They do so still chewing over last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Fortuna Sittard, a result that already nudged scrutiny onto performances and mentality.

Now, with another transfer collapsed and a winger back in the fold under uncertain circumstances, PSV head into Rotterdam with a squad that looks familiar on paper, but feels anything but settled.
