Djed Spence set for major career move to Inter Milan

Djed Spence is on the brink of a major reset to his career, with the England international due in Italy tonight ahead of a move to Inter worth up to €35 million from Tottenham Hotspur.

After days of hard bargaining, the two clubs finally reached an agreement this week: a fixed fee of €31.5m, with bonuses taking the total package to €35m. Spurs have also secured a 10 per cent cut of any future sale, a clear sign they still believe there is value to be unlocked in the 23-year-old.

Spence is expected to land in Milan this evening, suitcase already packed and the next chapter mapped out. He will check into a hotel and wake up to a pivotal Friday: medicals first with Inter’s staff, then with specialists from CONI, the Italian Olympic Committee, as required for players signing in Serie A.

If all goes to plan, the right-back will then put pen to paper on a five-year contract. The deal is understood to be worth around €2.6m per season, with performance-related bonuses layered on top.

Even the finer details are falling into place. Reports in Italy suggest Spence has already picked his shirt number: 24, a jersey once worn at Inter by another former Tottenham player, Christian Eriksen.
