Djed Spence Set for Inter Debut After International Break
Djed Spence has yet to kick a ball in anger for Inter, but his long wait in Italy is almost over.
The English right-back, signed from Tottenham in the summer for €35m, is expected to be available when Serie A resumes in October, with his debut pencilled in for Inter’s first game after the international break against Parma at San Siro on October 10.
From World Cup strain to San Siro stage
Spence arrived in Milan off the back of a demanding World Cup campaign with England, and Inter immediately put the 26-year-old on a tailored programme. Rather than rush him into the squad, the club chose caution: separate training sessions, focused work on conditioning, and a gradual build-up to full match fitness.
He has been working away from the main group since joining the Nerazzurri, sharpening his fitness and rhythm while his teammates started the season.
Now the plan is entering its final phase.
Final steps before return
According to Gazzetta, Spence will continue to train on his own this week, following the schedule drawn up to close the gap on his teammates. The key moment comes next week, when he is expected to rejoin full group training.
Cristian Chivu has handed his players a full week off during the break, with those not involved in national team duty due back at Appiano Gentile on Monday. Spence is set to be among them, this time no longer isolated on a side pitch, but working inside Chivu’s system.
If there are no setbacks, the right-back will finally be at his coach’s disposal for that home clash with Parma.
Inter paid big money and showed clear faith in Spence over the summer. The wait for a first glimpse of him in Nerazzurri colours in a competitive game is nearly done.
