Derby County Sign Alex Mowatt from West Bromwich Albion

Derby County have landed midfielder Alex Mowatt from West Bromwich Albion on a two-year deal, stepping in quickly after their first approach was knocked back earlier in the week.

The 31-year-old arrives at Pride Park for an undisclosed fee, just two days after West Brom rejected an initial bid from the Rams, as Derby moved decisively to get the deal over the line.

Mowatt, who had one year left on his contract at The Hawthorns, leaves West Brom after joining them in the summer of 2021. The former Leeds United and Barnsley midfielder made 170 appearances for the Baggies, the last of them coming in their Carabao Cup first-round win over Rotherham last week.

A seasoned Championship campaigner, Mowatt now switches to a direct rival, adding experience and bite to Derby’s midfield as the Rams sharpen their squad for the battles ahead.
