David Oduro Leaves Barcelona for Annecy in Ligue 2
David Oduro’s Barcelona chapter is over. The left-back from Barça Atletic, who arrived two years ago with a deal running until 2027, is heading to France to join Annecy in Ligue 2.
The club from Haute-Savoie made his signing official on Saturday, confirming the 20-year-old Ghanaian’s move away from Catalonia.
Oduro was part of the small group of African talents Barça brought in, alongside Aziz Issah and Ibrahim Diarra, as the club tried to tap into new markets. His start in Spain, though, never really ran smoothly. Bureaucratic problems kept him sidelined for several weeks in his first campaign and restricted him to just 10 appearances.
Once those issues cleared, his role grew. Last season he featured in 23 matches for Barça Atletic and finally put together a consistent run of games. It still wasn’t enough to secure a long-term place in the club’s plans. Now he swaps the training pitches of Ciutat Esportiva for a fresh opportunity in French football.
Left-back reset for Barça Atletic
Oduro’s exit is part of a broader reshuffle on the left side of Juliano Belletti’s defence. Jofre Torrents has also departed, joining Ajax, leaving the Brazilian coach to rebuild almost from scratch in that position.
Barça have already moved to cover the gap. Josué Caicedo has come in and impressed during pre-season, staking an early claim to the role. The coaching staff must also make a call on Jordi Pesquer, who has been training with the first team and sits on the edge between squads.
Alex Walton is another option in the pool, while Patricio Pacifico remains unavailable as he recovers from an ACL injury. Belletti has even tested Landry Farre at left-back, searching for balance and depth.
One left flank has closed for Oduro in Barcelona. Another one, in the French second division, now opens wide.
