Danilo Aims to Finish Career at Flamengo in 2027

Danilo has his finish line in sight, and he wants it painted red and black.

The veteran defender, now 35, revealed that his plan is to close out his career at Flamengo in 2027, with talks over a final contract already moving smoothly with the club’s hierarchy.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ninho do Urubu training ground, Danilo admitted that the chaos of recent years left him little room to think clearly about his future.

“In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared,” he said.

International duty, travel, the demands of staying at elite level deep into his thirties – all of it, he explained, had consumed his energy before he could properly sit down with Flamengo’s executives to map out what comes next.

Now, with the calendar finally offering some breathing space, the picture has sharpened.

“Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career.”

The former Real Madrid and Manchester City full-back underlined that renewal talks are progressing without drama or friction. No brinkmanship. No stand-off. Just a shared intention to sign off a long career in the colours of the club he loves.

“We have spoken very calmly. Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say ‘this is the last year of my career’ and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working,” he said.

Danilo was clear: he does not see any hurdles blocking an agreement.

“I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening, and hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy – that would be wonderful.”

One last contract. One last push for silverware. Danilo knows exactly how he wants the story to end.
