Costantino Favasuli Undergoes Medicals Ahead of Napoli Loan Move
Costantino Favasuli has taken the first concrete step towards becoming a Napoli player. The Italian defender arrived at Rome’s Villa Stuart clinic this morning, where he is undergoing medical tests before sealing a move from Serie B side Catanzaro.
Loan details: Initial one-season loan worth around €1m, with an obligation to buy set at approximately €6m.
It is a significant outlay for a player coming straight from the second tier, and a clear signal that the club see him as more than just a depth option.
A small group of Napoli supporters greeted the 22-year-old as he entered the clinic, an early taste of the expectation that comes with pulling on the Partenopei shirt.
One of the most highly rated young full-backs in Italy, Favasuli impressed last season as Catanzaro pushed all the way to the Serie B play-off final. He finished the campaign with two goals and seven assists in 36 appearances, numbers that underline his attacking threat from wide areas.
Although often deployed on the right, Favasuli is comfortable on the left flank as well, a versatility that only adds to his appeal for a Napoli side looking to refresh their options out wide.
His rise has not gone unnoticed at international level either. In June, under caretaker coach Silvio Baldini, he made his senior Italy debut and featured in both friendlies against Greece and Luxembourg.
If the medical goes to plan, Napoli will be betting that a defender forged in Serie B and fast-tracked into the Azzurri can now handle the weight of expectation in a city that demands its full-backs run, cross, and never stop competing.
