Conceicao's Future Uncertain as Chelsea Pursues Transfer Amid Juventus Financial Woes
The transfer window was supposed to wind down quietly for Conceicao. Instead, the Portuguese winger has been dragged into one of its late, wild storylines, his place at Juventus suddenly under serious threat in the final days of the market.
At the centre of it all: Jorge Mendes, a London–Riyadh money trail, and a Juventus board staring hard at the balance sheet.
Mendes’ Double Game: London, Riyadh, Turin
Gazzetta reports that Mendes is orchestrating a complex operation that could knock over several dominoes at once. The super-agent is close to sealing a deal that would send Neto from Chelsea to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, a move that has already shifted the mood at Stamford Bridge.
Al-Hilal’s improved offer has finally broken Chelsea’s resistance. With Neto now on the brink of departure, the Premier League club suddenly find themselves short of an attacking winger and in urgent need of a replacement.
They tried to go big. An attempt to land Rafael Leao went nowhere, failing to convince the English hierarchy to push it over the line. That setback forced Chelsea to pivot quickly.
Conceicao shot straight to the top of their list.
Juventus Torn Between Pitch and Accounts
For Juventus, the timing could hardly be worse. Luciano Spalletti has built his early plans with Conceicao firmly in mind, the winger expected to start in the Serie A opener against Frosinone. On the pitch, he is central. Off it, he is a potential solution to a financial problem.
Conceicao does not want to move. He sees Turin as the right place to grow, a club and a league where his development has a clear path. His preference is simple: stay, play, progress.
But personal wishes do not always win against hard numbers. Juventus need a major sale before the window closes to balance their accounts. Other names have been on the market, yet no concrete offers have landed for those players. That leaves Conceicao exposed, almost by default.
This is where Mendes’ strategy bites. If he arrives at Continassa with a proposal in the region of €40 million, Juventus will have to listen. At that level, the board cannot simply brush it aside.
Chelsea Ready to Pounce
Behind the scenes, the clock is ticking. Mendes is working to finalise Neto’s move to Saudi Arabia, a deal that would free Chelsea to fully launch their pursuit of Conceicao.
Once Neto’s transfer is confirmed, the pace is expected to jump. Chelsea, armed with fresh funds and under pressure to reinforce out wide, are poised to accelerate. The €40 million figure has become the reference point, the number that could crack open Juve’s resistance just as Al-Hilal’s offer did with Chelsea.
For now, Spalletti’s priority is the grass, not the spreadsheets. Conceicao remains in his plans for Frosinone, still pencilled into the starting XI as if nothing is happening around him.
But everyone at Juventus knows the reality. One document, one offer delivered to Turin at the right price, and the club will face a stark choice: keep a key winger at the heart of their tactical project, or cash in to satisfy urgent financial demands.
With the window closing fast and Mendes moving pieces across three cities, how long can Juve hold their nerve?
