Cody Gakpo Eyes Move to Tottenham Hotspur
Cody Gakpo has told Liverpool he wants out – and his destination is clear. He wants to be part of Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham Hotspur project.
The Dutch forward has informed the Anfield hierarchy that he no longer sees his long-term future on Merseyside and is pushing for a move to north London. His camp has already reached an agreement in principle on personal terms with Spurs, and the message has now been delivered directly to Liverpool: Gakpo wants to join De Zerbi.

At 27, Gakpo knows exactly where he stands in the pecking order. On the left, Rio Ngumoha has moved ahead of him. Through the middle, Alexander Isak is leading the line, with Hugo Ekitike still to return to full fitness and add more congestion in the attacking spots.
The picture is clear enough. Minutes could dry up. A bit-part role is not what Gakpo wants at this stage of his career, and that realisation has pushed him towards a fresh challenge.
De Zerbi’s pitch turns Gakpo’s head
De Zerbi, for his part, has not been shy about his admiration. The Tottenham head coach has outlined to Gakpo’s camp exactly how central the winger could be to his plans. Those conversations have landed.
Gakpo is understood to be hugely impressed by De Zerbi’s vision and the prospect of playing a major role in a fast-evolving Spurs side. The project in north London appeals, and not just as a change of scenery – he believes he can be a key figure there.
Tottenham’s interest is not limited to one forward, either. They remain keen on Manchester City’s Savinho and, crucially, believe they can bring in both Savinho and Gakpo as part of a broader rebuild of their attacking options.
One major selling point for Spurs is Gakpo’s versatility. They see him as someone who can operate off the left and also through the middle, giving De Zerbi another flexible weapon across the front line.
Liverpool’s stance – and the price
Liverpool are not rolling over. The club are standing firm and have set a clear threshold: they want more than £60 million before they will even consider letting Gakpo go.
Sources indicate Tottenham are ready to meet that valuation with their upcoming bid. That willingness has shifted the mood around the deal and significantly increased the chances of a transfer being completed.
Behind the scenes, Liverpool are already working on what could become the next step in the chain. They are pressing ahead with their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola, and progress on that front is strengthening the belief that Gakpo’s exit could eventually be signed off.
