Chelsea Approves Marc Guiu's Move to RB Leipzig
Chelsea have approved the permanent departure of striker Marc Guiu, with the 20-year-old set for a move to RB Leipzig as his brief and curious spell at Stamford Bridge draws to a close.
The deal is not over the line yet. Sources in Germany insist there are still details to iron out before Leipzig can officially unveil him, but the direction of travel is clear: Guiu’s future lies in the Bundesliga.
Chelsea are keeping the finer points of the agreement under wraps, yet the Spain Under-21 forward has been valued at around £25m. That figure underlines the scale of his rapid rise in market value, given he arrived from Barcelona in 2024 for about £5m.
A year on, he is on his way out.
From Barcelona hope to Chelsea gamble
Guiu came to London as a project signing, a powerful young striker plucked from his boyhood club with the promise of minutes and development in a squad stacked with potential.
Those minutes never truly materialised.
He made 29 appearances for Chelsea, many of them from the bench, but still managed eight goals. Six of those came in the club’s 2024-25 Conference League-winning campaign, where he often looked more at home under European floodlights than in the grind of domestic football.
The club tested him in England’s second tier as well. A short loan to Sunderland last season brought just three matches and little momentum. By the time this summer rolled around, the writing was on the wall.
Guiu trained away from the main first-team group in pre-season, a clear signal inside Cobham that plans were being made without him. Interest from Leipzig grew, talks advanced, and Chelsea have now sanctioned his exit.
For Leipzig, it is another move in a long-running strategy: buy young, develop aggressively, sell high. For Chelsea, it is a tidy profit and one more piece shifted in an ever-revolving squad.
Paez recalled as loan plans reshuffled
Guiu’s departure is not the only piece of business shaping Chelsea’s summer.
Midfielder Kendry Paez has been recalled from an unsuccessful loan at River Plate, a stint that never caught fire in Argentina. His return is as much about logistics as performance: bringing him back frees up an overseas loan slot.
Chelsea now intend to send Paez back out, with another loan move expected and England a possible destination.
One forward heading to Germany, one playmaker waiting to see where he lands next. Chelsea’s rebuild rolls on, and the question lingers: how many of these young talents will make their name in blue, and how many will do it somewhere else?
