Chelsea's Midfield Rebuild: Lamine Camara Bid Amid Enzo Fernandez Talks

Chelsea’s midfield rebuild is taking shape, but not quite in the direction many expected.

Roma have publicly denied receiving any formal offer from the Premier League side for midfielder Manu Kone, despite strong interest from Stamford Bridge. The Serie A club moved quickly to shut down the noise, with manager Gian Piero Gasperini issuing a firm statement on Monday night that effectively blocked any immediate move.

So Chelsea have turned elsewhere.

The London club have tabled a £38.5m bid for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara as they work through the final days of the window with one eye firmly on Enzo Fernandez. The Argentina international is edging closer to a switch to Manchester City, with a fee of around £120m being discussed ahead of the transfer deadline.

Chelsea are prepared to cash in. But only on one condition.

The sale of Fernandez will go through only if a replacement is secured, and Camara has moved to the top of their list. Talks with Monaco are expected to continue as Chelsea push to lock in the deal in time, knowing that any delay could jeopardise one of the biggest outgoing transfers of the summer.

Roma have drawn a line under Kone for now. Chelsea, instead, are gambling that Camara is the piece that allows them to reshape their midfield and still cash a nine-figure cheque from Manchester.
