Chelsea 2026/27 Squad Numbers Revealed

Chelsea’s dressing room board is set for 2026/27 – and a few numbers tell their own story.

The club have confirmed their squad list for the new campaign, with most of last season’s group keeping their shirts. The intrigue lies in the changes.

Joao Pedro takes on Chelsea’s No 9

The headline switch belongs to Joao Pedro. The Brazil international has moved from 20 to the iconic No 9, a shirt that now carries his weight of expectation rather than Liam Delap’s.

Delap, who wore 9 last season, drops to 12. It’s a quieter number, but one that still keeps him firmly in the first-team frame.

At the back, Wesley Fofana steps into a classic defender’s shirt. He takes over No 3, left vacant after Marc Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid. That change frees up 29, which goes straight to summer signing Pep Chavarria.

New signings grab the low numbers

There is a clear signal of trust in the club’s new arrivals.

Valentin Barco inherits the No 4 shirt, previously worn by Tosin Adarabioyo. The defender shifts to 38, a move that underlines how quickly Barco has been pushed towards the core of the squad.

Two other summer signings land single digits as well. Marco Palestra takes No 2, while Maxence Lacroix claims No 5, a number that belonged to Benoit Badiashile last season.

Badiashile, along with Axel Disasi and Marc Guiu, has not been given a squad number at all. All three were left out of pre-season, and the omission here underlines their uncertain status.

Henderson steps into 14, Rogers into 17

In midfield, Dario Essugo has shifted from 14 to 16. That clears the way for new arrival Jordan Henderson, who picks up the No 14 shirt – a number he knows well from earlier in his career.

Club-record signing Morgan Rogers gets 17, the shirt vacated by Andrey Santos after his move to Manchester United. It is a small but symbolic nod: a major investment now stamped with a prominent squad number.

Academy names on the board

The list also carries three academy products into sharper focus.

Reggie Watson (31), Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli (32) and Tayo Subuloye (37) have all been handed first-team numbers after eye-catching performances on the pre-season tour in Australia and Asia. Their official status is still not confirmed, but the numbers suggest Xabi Alonso will not hesitate to call on them if they are ready.
