Burnley Ends Finotive Partnership Before Season Start

Burnley’s new season hasn’t even started and already they’ve had to tear up one of its supposed cornerstones.

Six weeks after unveiling Finotive One as a principal partner and shirt sponsor for the 2026-27 campaign, the club have scrapped the agreement, cutting ties with the Cyprus-registered trading platform in abrupt fashion and plunging their commercial plans into chaos.

The decision, confirmed in a stark Friday morning statement, ends a relationship that had been trumpeted as a key part of Burnley’s financial and marketing strategy. Instead, it has left the club binning glossy promotional material and scrambling to rebrand kits days before the Championship curtain-raiser against West Ham United at Turf Moor on Sunday.

“Burnley Football Club is disappointed to confirm that its agreement with Finotive has been terminated,” the club told supporters, adding that the board had “acted decisively to protect the Club’s interests, and those of our supporters, while ensuring preparations for the new season continue uninterrupted, both on and off the pitch.”

Decisive or not, the timing is brutal.

Kits pulled, campaign scrapped

Burnley’s commercial department now faces the kind of nightmare no club wants on the eve of a new season.

The club have yanked all Finotive-branded home and away shirts from sale, both online and in physical stores. That includes the cream away strip launched with a blockbuster viral campaign fronted by Arnold Schwarzenegger and JJ Watt – content that has effectively been rendered unusable overnight.

Supporters who rushed to buy the new jerseys now own shirts the club no longer want on public display. Burnley have moved quickly to limit the anger, promising a full refund and exchange scheme for anyone who bought the Finotive-branded kit. Fans will be able to swap them for the updated version carrying the logo of Vertu Motors, the sponsor stepping into the void.

Some will inevitably stash the old shirts away, betting they become cult collector’s items from one of the strangest chapters in the club’s recent history. Many more are expected to trade them in and move on.

Clues were there before the announcement

The official statement might have landed on Friday, but the story started to unravel earlier in the week.

Supporters watching broadcaster promos for Sunday’s clash with West Ham spotted defender Kyle Walker wearing a Burnley shirt with a blank front – no Finotive logo, no sponsor at all. It jarred immediately, given the team had carried the Finotive One branding all through pre-season and as recently as last Saturday’s Carabao Cup first-round tie against Notts County.

Questions intensified when, 24 hours before the announcement, every reference to Finotive One vanished from Burnley’s website and social media channels. The digital clean-up made it clear something serious was brewing behind the scenes.

By the time the club finally confirmed the split, the writing had long been on the wall.

Another twist in Burnley’s sponsor saga

This is not an isolated episode. It is the latest in a growing list of sponsorship flashpoints at Turf Moor under ALK Capital’s ownership.

Chairman Alan Pace has spoken publicly about steering Burnley away from the betting sector, yet the club have repeatedly turned back to gambling firms such as W88 and SpreadEx to fill the shirt front. That uneasy relationship drew official scrutiny last year, when the Gambling Commission issued warnings to Burnley and several other clubs over links to TGP Europe-operated sites, after failures were found in anti-money laundering procedures and partner due diligence.

The move to Finotive One was meant to signal a clean break into a different commercial sphere, a fresh direction away from the gambling market and regulatory headaches. Instead, the partnership has collapsed before a single league ball has been kicked.

Burnley now head into Sunday’s opener not just fighting for points, but racing to restore order off the pitch and convince supporters that, this time, their front-of-shirt story won’t unravel before the season has truly begun.
