Bruno Guimaraes Aims for Arsenal Dynasty
Bruno Guimaraes says he has signed up for more than just a title defence at Arsenal – he believes he has joined a project built to last.
Fresh from dismantling Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield, Mikel Arteta’s side opened their Premier League campaign with another ruthless 3-0 win, this time against newly promoted Coventry at the Emirates Stadium. The champions looked sharp, hungry, and already in stride.
Guimaraes watched that home opener from the sidelines. A groin issue picked up in the win over City in Cardiff delayed what was supposed to be his first appearance in front of the Arsenal crowd. The wait, he insists, will be worth it.
From the moment Arteta called, the message was clear.
“Since the first time I spoke to him, he wants to make a dynasty here, trying to win everything as possible and I am always very excited of his idea,” Guimaraes told the Men In Blazers network on YouTube.
That word – dynasty – is not used lightly. Arsenal ended their long title drought last season. Now the bar has moved. Sustained success is the demand.
For Guimaraes, a £75million signing from Newcastle, the move is a leap into a new environment but one he has embraced.
“Everything is very new for me, and I am just trying to get used to the players, to the manager, to the staff, the way he works,” he said. “I can say that I am still finding my best way in the group, but I love it here.”
The Brazil international arrives as one of the most complete midfielders in the division, and he knows Arteta will use that versatility. There is no debate from his side.
“I can play every position in the midfield, but this just depends on Mikel’s ideas,” he explained. “He said to me that I can play everywhere, and I said yes, it just depends on you and where he wanted me to play. I am just ready to play for Arsenal, no matter where.”
That mindset mirrors the collective ambition inside the dressing room. No one is talking about easing into the season or settling for incremental progress. The targets are sweeping.
“I don’t have like one target – we go for everything,” Guimaraes said. “I think the potential we have in this team is unbelievable.
“I don’t want to put targets, we need to think game again and let’s see how far we can go, but with this team, I have a big chance of winning trophies.”
Next up is a trip to Aston Villa on Monday night, another early test of Arsenal’s authority. Villa could hand a debut to England defender Ezri Konsa, who completed a £51m move from the Gunners last week and may now face his former club almost immediately.
At the other end of the pitch, one of Arsenal’s long-standing attacking threats appears to be nearing the exit. Gabriel Martinelli has not featured in either of the opening two fixtures – absent against City and then again against Coventry – and is reportedly close to a move to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
As Arteta talks about building a dynasty, the squad is already shifting around that vision. Guimaraes is in the door, Martinelli may be on his way out, and the champions march into Villa Park looking every inch a team intent on turning one title into an era.
