Bristol City Shows Resilience in 1-0 Win Against Watford

Michael Skubala hailed Bristol City's resilience after they ground out a 1-0 win over Watford, ending a run of two straight defeats and delivering the clean sheet he had demanded.

"I'm really proud of the boys," he told BBC Radio Bristol, the relief clear after a testing spell. "It's not easy to go off two losses and to bounce back."

City did exactly that. They dug in when it mattered, defended with far more steel, and still found the ambition to attack the game rather than simply cling to a result.

"I thought they showed some good moments, some real character to defend well at times, to attack the game," Skubala said, underlining the blend of grit and intent that had been missing in recent outings.

He had also rolled the dice with his team selection. Several players short on minutes were thrown in and asked to deliver. They did.

"Lots of changes for the lads that haven't played many minutes – I thought they showed today as a good group, a true group and a squad," he said. Those on the fringes stepped into the spotlight and held their nerve.

For Skubala, that depth will not be a luxury this season. It will be a necessity.

"We have to be proud of the guys, who have come in and put a performance in, who haven't had so many minutes but we're going to need them all."

The clean sheet carried almost as much weight as the three points. City had leaked too many goals; the manager had made that challenge clear in the dressing room.

"The lads were challenged with getting a clean sheet because we haven't had enough of them," he admitted. "So I'm really proud of that because it just shows the growth we're going through."

One narrow win will not define Bristol City's season. But a group answering a challenge, and a squad beginning to trust its depth, might.
