Brighton Signs Canada Striker Promise David on Loan

Brighton have moved to sharpen their attacking edge with the signing of Canada striker Promise David from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on a season-long loan, which includes an obligation to buy for a reported £22m.

The 25-year-old arrives with numbers that demand attention. Since joining Union Saint-Gilloise in 2024, he has played 82 times, scoring 41 goals and supplying nine assists. A one-in-two striker, and then some.

His route to the Premier League has been anything but straightforward. David began his career in Canada before heading to Croatia and the United States, then took the long way round Europe: two clubs in the Maltese Premier League, a move to Estonian side Nomme Kalju, and from there to Union Saint-Gilloise, where his form finally pushed him onto the wider radar.

That rise has been mirrored on the international stage. David featured in four of Canada’s five World Cup matches, coming off the bench each time, and scored in the 2-1 group-stage defeat to Switzerland. It was a brief glimpse of a striker who relishes big moments.

"Promise is someone we have been watching for some time, he is an out-and-out striker who possesses outstanding physical attributes and a track record of scoring goals," said Brighton sporting director Mike Cave. "His experience at international level and in European competition will hopefully prove valuable this season.

"At 25, he's entering his prime playing years and we're excited to see him continue to develop in our environment."

Brighton now have a powerful, direct centre-forward entering his peak years, signed with the clear expectation that this is not just a loan – but the start of a long-term role on the south coast.
