Brian Sorensen Returns to International Football as Ireland Assistant Coach

Brian Sorensen is set for a swift return to international football, with the former Everton manager poised to join the Republic of Ireland women’s set-up for their World Cup play-off campaign.

The Dane is expected to come in as assistant coach, working alongside Liverpool coach Amber Whiteley as Ireland gear up for a crucial qualifying run later this year.

Sorensen will combine the role with his current job as technical director of Aston Villa Women. He is understood to be staying in that position and linking up with Ireland only during international breaks, adding an extra layer of top-level experience to the national side without stepping away from his club duties.

He will reunite with Ireland boss Carla Ward, who went head-to-head with his Everton side during her spell in charge of Aston Villa in the Women’s Super League. This time, they will be on the same touchline, shaping Ireland’s push for a place at the Women’s World Cup.

Upcoming Play-Offs

The task in front of them is clear. Ireland face Kazakhstan in the first round of the play-off qualifiers, a two-legged tie scheduled for 9 and 13 October.

By then, Sorensen will be in green, part of a coaching team with no margin for error.
