Bournemouth Fan Rates Transfer Window 7/10 Despite Senesi Loss

With the transfer window locked until January, Bournemouth supporters are starting to judge the work done over the summer – and one Cherries fan believes the club have quietly had a very decent few months.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, Bournemouth fan Josh Wyatt handed the window a solid seven out of 10, pleased that the core of Andoni Iraola’s squad has been kept intact while key areas have been reinforced.

The deal that excites him most financially? A goalkeeper.

Wyatt picked loan signing Michele Di Gregorio as the bargain of the summer, pointing to the impact competition can have between the posts. He highlighted how last season’s battle around Djordje Petrovic sharpened standards once Christos Mandas and Fraser Forster arrived.

“I actually think bringing in a back-up goalkeeper is so crucial,” Wyatt said. He recalled how Petrovic “was quite shaky early on” before the club brought in two back-up keepers and “he was a different goalkeeper”.

That Everton game still sticks in his mind. Petrovic delivered “some really good saves”, the kind of performance that underlined why depth in goal matters. So when Bournemouth secured Di Gregorio – Juventus’ number one last season – for around £1m, Wyatt saw clear value.

“In terms of a straight up bargain, bringing in a goalkeeper for £1m who was Juventus' number one last season, I think that would be a bargain for me,” he said.

If Di Gregorio is the value pick, Antonio Silva is the headline act.

Wyatt named the young centre-back as the signing most likely to shine, impressed by how quickly he has settled. “We’ve seen it already,” he said, describing Silva as a “really well accomplished young centre-back who could be playing for a top European team in a couple of years.”

The excitement about Silva is tempered by one major frustration. The one that got away is already in north London.

Asked which departure will hurt most, Wyatt did not hesitate: Marcos Senesi, now at Tottenham. The defender was a standout performer last season, sweeping up a “few awards for Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season”.

“He had a superb year for us,” Wyatt said. “He was really good last year. To lose him on a free transfer to Tottenham, a league rival and a team that finished below us last year is obviously going to hurt. Definitely Senesi will be a big miss.”

That sting doesn’t completely overshadow the bigger picture for him, though. The spine of the team remains, the “big names have stayed”, and there is fresh competition in key positions.

“Overall I'm definitely happy with the window,” Wyatt concluded.

Now Bournemouth have four months to prove that a seven out of 10 summer can fuel something far more ambitious on the pitch.
