Napoli Shows Interest in Chelsea Defender Benoit Badiashile
Benoit Badiashile, the Chelsea centre-back, is reportedly drawing attention from Italian side Napoli. The 25-year-old defender, who joined Chelsea in January 2023 for around £35 million, has struggled with injuries and inconsistent performances, causing him to slip down the pecking order under several managers.
Though there was speculation that Badiashile might get a fresh chance with new coach Xabi Alonso, he does not appear to be part of Alonso's plans. This suggests that Badiashile’s tally of 71 appearances over three and a half years at Chelsea could soon stop growing.
Transfer Talks Sparked by Napoli's Defensive Woes
According to reports from The Sun, Napoli is interested in signing Badiashile after an injury sidelined their defender Alessandro Buongiorno. While no transfer fee details have emerged, Napoli is believed to want to offer Badiashile a three-year contract as they look to bolster their back line ahead of the 2026-27 season. Badiashile seems open to the move to Naples.
Last season, Badiashile featured just 16 times for Chelsea, with only eight appearances in the Premier League, reflecting his reduced role in the squad.
Potential Transfer Fee and Chelsea's Valuation
Chelsea will likely aim to recoup a significant sum for Badiashile. Given they are seeking between £30 million and £35 million for Trevoh Chalobah, a player held in higher regard, Napoli may see a chance to negotiate a lower price. Badiashile still has over four years remaining on his seven-and-a-half-year contract signed in 2023, which strengthens Chelsea's negotiating position.
It is thought Chelsea would want around £20 million to avoid a loss. Napoli might argue that Badiashile’s limited league appearances since 2022-23—never surpassing 22 in a season—justify a lower valuation. Whether Napoli will meet Chelsea’s asking price remains uncertain.
