Bayern U-turn: Boey Likely to Stay at Club

What looked like a straightforward summer exit for Sacha Boey has swung the other way. Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has confirmed the French full-back is now more likely to stay at the club after a move failed to materialise before the close of the German transfer window.

“The probability is now greater that he’ll stay here,” Freund told reporters on Friday, drawing a line under weeks of expectation that Bayern would find Boey a new home.

Bayern had been open to offloading the 25-year-old, but no suitable deal emerged in time. The clock ran down, the window shut, and Boey remained in Munich.

Through it all, Freund stressed, the defender has handled the uncertainty with professionalism.

“He’s always behaved in impeccable fashion. The plan was different, but this can happen in football,” the sporting director said, acknowledging that the club’s initial strategy had been to move him on.

For now, the equation is simple. With the Bundesliga window closed and no transfer agreed elsewhere, Bayern are preparing to keep him in the group.

“When all transfer windows are closed and he’s still here, then he’ll remain a player in our squad,” Freund concluded.

Boey arrived as a project and looked destined for a swift departure. Now he has a second chance to fight for a place in a Bayern side that suddenly needs every option it can trust.
