Basil Tuma Named in Malta's Provisional Squad for UEFA Matches

Basil Tuma’s rapid rise continued on Monday as the Aldershot Town winger was named in Malta’s provisional 29-man squad for their upcoming international fixtures.

The 21-year-old only arrived at the EBB Stadium in the summer, signing from Reading, but has wasted no time making an impression. Eight appearances into his Shots career, he has helped drive them up to eighth in the National League table on 15 points, adding pace and direct running to the flanks.

Born in Uganda, Tuma first pulled on national colours for his homeland at the 2020 CECAFA Under-17 Championship. Two years later, his international path took a sharp turn. Malta brought him into their Under-19 set-up in September 2022, opening the door to a new chapter.

That door is now wide open at senior level. Tuma made his full Malta debut in October 2024, coming off the bench at half-time and immediately making an impact by winning a penalty. Since that breakthrough, he has gone on to collect seven further caps, steadily tightening his grip on a place in the squad.

Upcoming Fixtures

Now comes another test. Malta face a demanding run of three UEFA Nations League matches in the next two weeks. They start away to Andorra on 24 September, a trip that will set the tone for the international window.
