Barcelona Targets Tottenham's Pedro Porro for Defensive Rebuild

Barcelona have quietly started the next phase of their defensive rebuild, and the first calls have already gone out.

According to reports from Spain, relayed by the Metro website, the Catalan club have made contact with the representatives of Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro as they prepare for the possibility of losing Jules Koundé in the summer. Arsenal are monitoring Koundé, and that interest has been strong enough to push Barcelona into action.

Gerard Romero reported on his YouTube channel that Barcelona have stepped up negotiations with Porro’s camp in recent days, going as far as putting an initial proposal on the table for the player’s agents. This is not a casual enquiry. It is groundwork.

Koundé’s stance complicates everything. The Frenchman has not shown any desire to leave and his future remains unresolved, hanging in that awkward space where nothing is guaranteed and nothing is ruled out. Barcelona cannot wait for clarity. They are moving now.

Porro, 26, has built a strong reputation at Tottenham. His performances in the Premier League have underlined his attacking threat and energy, and he carried that form onto the international stage, starting most of Spain’s matches on their way to winning the last World Cup.

Tottenham tied him down to a new contract in June, a long-term deal running until 2031. Inside the club, he is not seen as expendable. Coach Roberto De Zerbi has publicly highlighted his importance, describing him as a player who can influence games in both penalty areas.

That is exactly why Barcelona are interested. Porro offers more than just a right-back option. His versatility across the back line fits perfectly with what the club would need if Koundé were to depart, giving them tactical flexibility at a time when every move in the market has to count.
