Barcelona Completes Summer Rebuild with Gordon Signing
Barcelona’s summer rebuild has clicked into place just in time.
After finalising the registrations of Rodri and Karim Adeyemi, the club have now pushed Anthony Gordon over the line with La Liga, confirming the England winger in the squad ahead of Sunday night’s league opener against Elche at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero.
Gordon, signed from Newcastle United in a deal worth €70 million plus add-ons, is now officially available for competitive action. It is a statement signing, not just in terms of fee, but in timing: Barcelona wanted him ready for matchday one, and they’ve beaten the clock comfortably.
His registration means three of Barça’s summer arrivals are now fully cleared to play, with only Joao Cancelo still waiting. The Portuguese international’s move was confirmed on Thursday, and the club are racing the paperwork to see if the La Liga champions can also have him eligible for the Elche clash.
This is not the frantic late-August Barcelona of recent years. No last-minute salary cuts, no desperate levers pulled on deadline day just to squeeze a player into the squad list. Operating once again under the 1:1 Fair Play rule has changed the mood around the offices at the club’s headquarters.
The result is simple but significant: three new signings registered in good time and poised to make their official debuts this weekend. The real judgement starts under the floodlights in Elche.
