Uefa announced on Tuesday that the renovated Nou Camp in Barcelona will host the 2029 Champions League final, bypassing London's Wembley Stadium. This marks a major event for Barcelona just a year before Spain co-hosts the 2030 World Cup alongside Portugal and Morocco.
The final decision comes as part of Uefa's broader plans, with the 2028 final set to be held at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena, the only venue to apply. Interestingly, this will occur only three years after Allianz Arena hosted the 2025 final.

The Nou Camp is undergoing a delayed reconstruction project which includes finishing the top tier and installing a new roof. The stadium has a capacity of 105,000 seats once completed. Barcelona last welcomed the Champions League final back in 1999, famously remembered for Manchester United's dramatic late victory over Bayern Munich.
Wembley's Recent Hosting Record
Wembley Stadium has hosted the final eight times since the European Cup started 71 years ago, including recent finals in 2011, 2013, and 2024. Despite this rich history, it will not hold the 2029 final. This announcement coincides with news that London also lost its bid to stage the 2029 World Athletics Championships.
Nairobi Wins Bid for 2029 World Athletics Championships
London was competing against Nairobi, Munich, and Rome to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships. The Kenyan capital was selected, becoming the first African city to host the event.
World Athletics president Seb Coe said, "Taking our championships to Africa for the first time will be historic. Nairobi has presented a compelling and emotional bid." He added, "Kenya is one of the great athletics nations, and the sport is woven into the fabric of the country, shaped by athletes like Faith Kipyegon, Vivian Cheruiyot, Eliud Kipchoge, Hellen Obiri, David Rudisha, Kip Keino, Paul Tergat, and Tegla Loroupe."
Coe emphasized the importance of bringing the championships to Africa at the right moment, praising Nairobi’s ambition to inspire a continent and create a lasting legacy for the sport.
