Barcelona's New Signings: Registration Before La Liga Kick-off
Barcelona have entered a decisive 48-hour stretch off the pitch, convinced they can avoid any late drama with La Liga registrations before the new season begins.
The club, as reported by SPORT, expect to have all of their first-team reinforcements cleared in time for Sunday’s opener against Elche, with the registration process formally kicking off today, Thursday. The timing is deliberate: no deadline-day scramble, no last-minute uploads, no repeat of previous summers’ tension.
Flick wants a full deck
Inside the club, the plan is clear. Hansi Flick should have every new first-team signing available for selection when he names his first La Liga squad.
Barcelona are currently operating under La Liga’s 1:1 spending rule, a far more forgiving framework than the restrictions that choked their transfer business in recent seasons. It gives them room to manoeuvre, but not a free pass. Every registration still has to be backed by the right sporting and financial documentation, checked and approved before a ball is kicked.
That is why the club have moved early. They want the paperwork finished with a cushion before Elche arrive, not signed off in the final hours.
Among the headline names expected to be registered are Rodri, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi. Rodri is the marquee arrival, prised from Manchester City on a deal running until 2030 and immediately projected as a pillar of Flick’s new Barcelona. Gordon was the first operation closed this summer, a statement of intent at the start of the window, while Adeyemi adds pace and depth to the attacking line.
Hamza Abdelkarim also features in the club’s planning after Barcelona triggered their purchase option on him, reinforcing the squad’s spine. Young prospect Jesse Bisiwu will be registered with the reserve team but remain plugged into the wider first-team dynamic, training and integrating under Flick’s eye.
One cloud on an otherwise clear horizon
For all the optimism, one case sits apart.
Joao Cancelo, the last arrival through the door, is the most complex file on the table. His late signing has left the club with a tighter window to process the necessary documentation, and that makes his availability against Elche the only genuine doubt among the new faces.
The club still believe they can make it work. Outgoing operations are expected to open up the required space in the squad list and wage bill, clearing the way for Cancelo’s registration without needing a dramatic late twist.
Another dossier that needs careful handling is that of Andreas Christensen, whose situation also requires attention from the sporting department and the finance team as they balance the numbers.
Barcelona have lived through enough registration sagas to know the cost of hesitation. This time, with Flick ready to launch a new era and fresh signings waiting to step onto the Camp Nou pitch, they are determined that the story of their season will be written on the grass, not in the offices.
