Barcelona's Julian Alvarez Pursuit Nears Collapse

Barcelona’s long pursuit of Julian Alvarez is on the brink of collapse, and the clock could not be ticking louder.

The Catalan club open their La Liga campaign on Sunday against Elche with a glaring problem: as it stands, there is no recognised striker in the squad. For a team built on goals and spectacle, that is a jarring reality.

All summer, Alvarez has been the chosen one. The priority. The forward Barcelona wanted to build their attack around. But Atletico Madrid have held the line. He is not for sale. Not at any price they consider acceptable.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will make one final push to change Atletico’s mind. One last offer, one last phone call, one last attempt to unlock a deal that has dominated their transfer window. If that fails, they walk away.

The club have reportedly set a hard deadline: the next two or three days. If Alvarez is not signed within that window, the focus turns elsewhere and the saga ends, at least for now.

And there is no shortage of “elsewhere.” Dozens of names have already been floated as possible alternatives, the rumour mill churning relentlessly as pre-season has rolled on. The latest to surface is Ayoze Perez, who has now been linked as a potential solution to Barcelona’s striking void.

The Alvarez chase has framed the entire summer at Camp Nou, overshadowing other debates and decisions. Now, with the season about to start and time almost gone, Barcelona stand at a crossroads: land their top target against the odds, or finally cut the cord and commit to Plan B.
