Barcelona Avoids €10 Million Clause by Selling Ferran Torres to PSG

Barcelona have dodged a €10 million payment to Manchester City by striking a deal with Paris Saint-Germain for Ferran Torres, according to journalist Nil Sola.

The Spain international is set to join PSG for under €50m on a five-year contract, a fee that lands neatly below a key clause in the agreement that took him from City to Camp Nou in 2022. Had Barcelona sold Torres for €55m or more, they would have been obliged to send €10m back to the Premier League champions.

That trigger will now stay untouched.

There was another potential payout on the table as well: City were due €8m if Barcelona renewed Torres’ contract. Instead, the Catalans have chosen to cash in, avoid both add-ons and book a profit at a time when every euro matters.

For the Blaugrana’s accountants, it is a clean win. For the coach, it is a headache.

If Torres completes his move to Paris, Barcelona will be left without a natural senior striker. Robert Lewandowski has already walked away as a free agent, and there is no obvious No 9 waiting in the wings to take over the role.

The club’s response has been ambitious, bordering on desperate. They have identified Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez as a primary target and even went as far as lodging a €100m bid. Atletico’s stance has been blunt: not for sale.

With that door slammed shut, Barcelona have scanned the market for alternatives. Two names stand out — Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi.

The timing could hardly be worse. Kane is poised to extend his contract with the German champions, shutting down any realistic prospect of a move to Spain. Kroupi, meanwhile, faces three to four months out after a foot injury, removing him as an immediate solution.

So Barcelona celebrate a smart piece of business on the balance sheet, but stare at a glaring hole through the middle of their attack. The money is there. The clause is avoided. The question now is simple: who scores the goals?
