Aston Villa has agreed on a £65 million transfer fee to bring Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea, marking a significant move in this summer’s transfer window. The Senegalese forward is set to reunite with Unai Emery at Villa Park, rejoining the coach who guided him at Villarreal.

Sources from The Athletic confirm that the package includes an upfront payment of £47.5 million. Discussions about Jackson’s personal terms at Villa Park are currently underway as the club pushes to finalize the signing. At 25 years old, Jackson has been a long-standing target for Villa, especially favored by Emery, who has wanted to bring the striker to Birmingham for a while.
This deal marks the third transaction between the two clubs this summer after Morgan Rogers’ record £117 million switch to Chelsea and Alejandro Garnacho joining Villa on a season-long loan with a conditional purchase obligation.
Jackson’s Past Connection with Emery and Career Progression
Jackson flourished under Emery’s management at Villarreal, where he netted 13 goals before his move to Chelsea in the summer of 2023. Their strong working relationship played a key role in finalizing the deal, as Emery knows how to unlock the forward’s potential effectively.
Jackson originally transferred to Chelsea for £32 million on an eight-year contract and scored 30 goals over 81 appearances. Despite flashes of his skill and relentless effort, Chelsea decided to capitalize on his market value amid a squad reshuffle.
Loan Spell at Bayern Munich
The Senegal striker spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Bayern Munich, contributing eight goals and two assists in 23 Bundesliga matches during their record-extending 34th league title run. Though the loan included a €16.5 million initial fee and a conditional €65 million purchase obligation, the criteria for a permanent transfer were not met.
Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness explained that Jackson needed to start 40 matches, excluding cup games, to trigger the clause. Jackson started only 13 times across the Bundesliga and Champions League combined, so the obligation expired, leading to his return to Chelsea before Villa entered the picture.
International Credentials Strengthen Villa's Attack
Jackson brings international experience with 37 caps and eight goals for Senegal. Since debuting against the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup, he has become a key figure in the Teranga Lions’ offense. Most recently, he appeared in four matches and provided an assist during Senegal’s 2026 World Cup campaign, which ended in the round of 32 against Belgium.
