Arteta Praises David as Transformative Arsenal Keeper

Mikel Arteta has refused to label his goalkeeper as his best-ever signing, but made it clear the Spaniard has transformed his team.

Speaking before this weekend’s league fixture, the Arsenal manager was asked directly if his current No 1 was the finest piece of business of his tenure. Arteta swerved the ranking debate, but not the praise.

"I don't know – he's been a tremendous signing, there is no question about that," Arteta said. "Whether he is the best or not is just an opinion. It doesn't matter, we are so happy to have him. He has elevated the team to a different level and now we have to maintain that level."

That last line carried the weight of expectation. Arteta knows the standard has changed. The bar is higher now, largely because of what the goalkeeper brings.

Pressed on what separates David from others in his position, Arteta pointed straight at mentality rather than technique.

"I think it's his mentality. David has tremendous quality but he has overcome a lot of difficulties and challenges to reach this point," he explained.

The early months were anything but smooth. High-pressure games, fierce scrutiny, every minor mistake magnified. According to Arteta, that period shaped the player Arsenal see now.

"It wasn't easy at the beginning, he had to dig in and prove himself," the manager said. "Now, he has the right to be one of the best."

Arteta’s message was clear: labels can wait. Performances like these cannot.
