Arteta Agrees New Arsenal Deal for Future Leadership

Mikel Arteta has committed his future to Premier League champions Arsenal, agreeing an improved new contract that will keep him at the club into at least his 10th year in charge.

The Spaniard’s existing deal was due to expire at the end of this season, a ticking clock that had lingered in the background while Arsenal surged back to the top of English football. Negotiations have been running for months. Now they’re done.

The agreement, reached with the Arsenal hierarchy in recent days, removes any doubt over the club’s direction. Arteta stays. The project continues.

The exact length of the new contract remains under wraps, but the terms are clear enough: this is a long-haul commitment. Having arrived in December 2019, Arteta is now set to carry Arsenal beyond a decade under his leadership, a rare level of stability in the modern game.

The deal reflects his status. Arteta’s salary will rise sharply from his current £10m per year, with a significant increase on top of the additional £5m in bonuses already built into his previous contract. Arsenal have tied down the manager who delivered the title — and paid accordingly.

Arteta himself has never sounded like a man with one foot out of the door. Speaking last week about the ongoing talks, he moved quickly to calm any nerves in the stands.

“They [the fans] don't have to worry about any of that because I want to be here,” he said. “I'm extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with.”

The message from both sides is unmistakable. Arsenal believe the man who rebuilt them is the one to lead their defence of the crown. Arteta, backed and rewarded, is staying right at the heart of it.
