Arsenal Nears Signing of Liverpool Prospect Vincent Joseph

Arsenal are on the verge of prising highly rated teenager Vincent Joseph away from Liverpool, in another aggressive move to stockpile elite youth talent in north London.

An agreement is already in place between Arsenal and the England youth international, according to The Athletic, after Joseph chose not to sign scholarship terms at Anfield this summer when his schoolboy registration expired. The forward, just 16, is now poised to switch allegiances from Merseyside red to Arsenal red.

The two clubs are locked in talks over a compensation package for the striker. Joseph is under 24 and has not signed a professional deal with Liverpool, so if they fail to settle on a fee, a tribunal will step in and set the figure.

Arsenal clearly believe the fight is worth it. Joseph’s numbers at youth level are eye-catching: eight goals in nine games for England’s under-16s, plus three goals in two appearances in last season’s under-18 Premier League for Liverpool. He has been climbing quickly through the age groups; now Arsenal want him climbing their ladder instead.

This is not a one-off raid. It fits a clear pattern.

Arsenal have already beaten Liverpool to the signature of teenage goalkeeper Phoenix Blayney, another statement move in the academy market. The Gunners’ intent around youth recruitment has rarely felt sharper.

Blayney’s father, Alan, has already laid out the plan. Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph earlier in the summer, he said everything is in place for his son to join Arsenal and commit long term.

“Everything has been agreed with Arsenal, he just needs to sign the contract,” he explained. “When he’s 17, he will sign a professional contract. It’s done and dusted and a pre-contract will be signed when the time is right.”

Blayney is expected to sign that pre-contract when he links up with Arsenal this summer, before moving onto professional terms when he turns 17 in November 2027. It is a long runway, but Arsenal are happy to plan that far ahead.

They are not stopping there.

Arsenal are also set to complete the signing of Cardiff City youngster Axel Donczew, another teenager already used to first-team surroundings. Donczew became the youngest player ever to represent Cardiff’s senior side when he featured in the EFL Trophy against Newport County on October 25, aged just 15 years and 234 days.

One prolific England youth striker from Liverpool, one teenage goalkeeper secured ahead of a Premier League rival, one record-breaking debutant from Cardiff. Arsenal’s academy rebuild is no quiet project in the background. It is starting to look like a central pillar of how the club intends to compete in the years to come.
