Arsenal's Arteta Nears New Contract as Kane Shuts Door on United
The summer window has shut, but the market hasn’t gone quiet. It’s just changed gear.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham are already moving pieces for January, with managers, directors and agents all shaping what the next phase of the season will look like.
Arteta “very, very close” to new Arsenal contract
Arsenal’s biggest deal of the winter might not involve a player at all.
Mikel Arteta is on the brink of signing a new contract at the Emirates, with talks now at an advanced stage. Fabrizio Romano reports that negotiations between the club and Arteta’s camp are progressing smoothly, describing the agreement as “very, very close” and stating he expects the Spaniard to commit his future to Arsenal.
It would lock in the architect of their recent resurgence just as the club continue to push forward on recruitment. Arsenal have already announced an agreement to sign Andria Bartishvili – quickly labelled the “next Khvicha Kvaratskhelia” – and remain keen on Kenan Yildiz, Julian Alvarez and Eli Junior Kroupi, while also being linked with Como talent Nico Paz.
There is also growing interest in Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha. With Cody Gakpo established and Bradley Barcola arriving on Deadline Day, Ngumoha’s minutes on the left flank look limited, and Arsenal are monitoring his situation ahead of January.
Kane cools United hopes as Bayern grow confident
Manchester United’s long-running admiration for Harry Kane has hit a familiar wall.
TEAMtalk report that Bayern Munich are increasingly confident of keeping the England captain beyond this season. The Bundesliga champions believe their relationship with Kane is strong and that he remains committed to their project.
United had been prepared to explore a deal running to 2027, with Kane’s current contract due to expire at the end of the season, but any faint hope of tempting him back to the Premier League has been dealt a serious blow. For now, Bayern see no reason to sell, and Kane is not pushing for an exit.
United pivot to Truffert in left-back search
So the focus at Old Trafford shifts.
Having missed out on Lewis Hall, who has signed a new deal at Newcastle, United are stepping up their hunt for a long-term successor to Luke Shaw. Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert has emerged as a leading candidate.
According to TEAMtalk, United are closely tracking the 24-year-old and have already laid early groundwork for a potential move. Truffert is valued at around £60m and is tied to Bournemouth until 2030, a contract that leaves the Cherries in a powerful position and reluctant to sell.
A January deal looks complicated. A move next summer is viewed as more realistic, but United’s need at left-back is clear after a quiet summer in that position. Truffert’s performances since arriving from Rennes have pushed him towards the top of their list.
Chelsea weigh up midfield reset
Across London, Chelsea are bracing for a major midfield decision.
With Enzo Fernandez expected to depart in January, the club are preparing to bring in a replacement. Early interest in Lamine Camara appears to have cooled, with Marc Bernal and Manu Kone now among the names being discussed. Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, a long-standing target, remains firmly on the radar.
Chelsea’s choices in the middle of the pitch will shape their second half of the season. They cannot afford to get this one wrong.
Liverpool circle Camara as Wirtz attracts Bayern
Liverpool are watching the same market from a different angle.
Camara, who may no longer be top of Chelsea’s list, could find his route to the Premier League via Anfield instead. The Reds are also maintaining their interest in Adam Wharton, a player they have admired for some time.
Bayern Munich, meanwhile, are sniffing around Florian Wirtz, adding another layer of competition to an already congested European talent race.
Richarlison’s Vasco move: why it really collapsed
Richarlison’s future remains one of the most curious sagas of this window cycle.
Tottenham were prepared to let the forward leave, and Vasco da Gama pushed hard to bring him home before the deadline. UOL journalist Bruno Braz reports that Vasco were ready to structure a permanent deal that would have allowed Richarlison to return abroad as early as January, including a clause offering him an exit route after just a few months. Tottenham were said to be satisfied with the financial proposal.
The move still fell apart.
The sticking point was Richarlison himself. He did not want a permanent transfer. His preferred solution was to terminate his Spurs contract, then sign with Vasco only until the end of the year and reassess his options in January.
With that plan rejected, the Brazilian is left in limbo. A transfer to Everton and a switch to Trabzonspor had already broken down over personal terms. Now, with the Vasco deal gone, Richarlison faces up to four months without competitive senior football, his situation at Tottenham unresolved until the winter window opens.
Tottenham’s new powerbroker and Ayari interest
Change is coming at Spurs, but not just on the pitch.
The club are expected to appoint Piero Ausilio as their new sporting director ahead of January, bringing to an end his more than 20-year association with Inter. His exit has already prompted Inter to promote Dario Baccin into the role.
That reshuffle could have a knock-on effect for Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari. Sport Witness report that Baccin wants to make a statement early and has identified Ayari, whose contract at Brighton runs until 2027, as a potential signing. The length of that deal makes him particularly attractive to Inter.
Ayari is also a player who may appeal to Ausilio himself, raising the intriguing possibility of a tug of war between his old and likely new clubs once the window opens.
Tottenham, for their part, are also said to be keen on confirming Ausilio’s arrival quickly as they plot a broader rebuild.
Arsenal to make a call on Madueke
Another winger, another decision.
Arsenal will soon have to determine what comes next for Noni Madueke, with his lack of minutes drawing attention across Europe. CaughtOffside report that Atletico Madrid and Juventus are both monitoring the England international ahead of January.
A loan move, potentially with an option to buy, is viewed as a realistic route. No formal talks have begun, but Atletico see Madueke as a source of pace and direct running in their attack, while Juventus are also keeping a close eye on developments.
Arsenal hold the power here. Madueke is under a long-term contract, and the club must decide whether to push for greater involvement under Arteta or sanction a move that could see him flourish elsewhere.
West Ham’s quiet business
Away from the headline names, West Ham continue to work the lower tiers of the market.
The club have confirmed that Preston Fearon has joined Forest Green Rovers on a three-month loan, giving the youngster valuable senior experience. Ryan Battrum has also departed on a short-term basis, signing for Southend United in the National League on a one-month loan.
These are small moves in isolation. They often shape careers.
