Andy Cole Explains Why Premier League Clubs Haven't Signed Victor Osimhen Despite Interest

Victor Osimhen has been linked with multiple Premier League teams over the years, yet no transfer has materialized. Andy Cole, former Manchester United striker, shared insights with GOAL on why a move that seems logical hasn’t happened despite regular reports linking Osimhen to clubs like Chelsea and Man Utd.

Osimhen’s Rise Through European Football

Starting his European career at Wolfsburg, Osimhen gained real recognition during a loan spell at Charleroi in Belgium. He then impressed at Lille in France during the 2019-20 season before securing a high-profile transfer to Napoli. There, he helped the club win the Serie A title and scored 31 goals in the 2022-23 campaign.

Premier League giants such as United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea have reportedly considered signing him. Currently, Osimhen is playing for Galatasaray in Turkey, where he has an impressive record of 65 goals in 78 appearances.

Would Osimhen Fit in the Premier League?

At 27, Osimhen possesses speed, strength, and clinical finishing—qualities suited to English football. When asked about this, Cole said, "He does. He scores goals. He scored goals in Italy and he’s scoring goals in Turkey as well."But Cole noted other factors play a role in transfers beyond just salary or fees: "There’s many different things that go on. If he does come to the Premier League, which I think he will be very good in the Premier League, you never know who he’ll go to."

Calls for Manchester United to Sign Osimhen

Several former United players have urged the club to pursue Osimhen. Patrice Evra recently told GOAL, "A striker, someone who scores a goal. That’s what I’m looking at. That’s why for me, Osimhen is the best. He’s a perfect example."

Louis Saha, another ex-Manchester United forward, praised Osimhen’s credentials and character: "I really like Victor Osimhen. He’s definitely got the character, he’s got the quality. He’s also got good European pedigree: he was a success in France, a champion in Italy with Napoli, and he’s been brilliant at Galatasaray in Turkey, a move he probably didn’t want.He’s scored goals at every level and has Champions League experience. More importantly, he brings personality and charisma that could benefit the current United squad.I think he would be transformational for Manchester United. Considering the pressure he handled at Napoli, leading them to their first title in 33 years, he’s perfect to lead United’s attack. I’d love to see the club make a move for him; he’s exactly what we need."

Could Arsenal or Others Renew Interest?

Despite these endorsements, United have focused elsewhere and currently have Benjamin Sesko as their only pure striker. Some believe interest in Osimhen might resurface, especially from reigning Premier League champions Arsenal, who may revisit the idea of adding a proven scorer in future transfer windows.
