Alisson fined £8,000 for Anfield tunnel incident

Alisson has been hit with an £8,000 fine for kicking the fourth official’s electronic board in the aftermath of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

The Liverpool goalkeeper lashed out at the equipment as he headed towards the tunnel at full-time on Saturday, frustration boiling over after a chaotic finish and a controversial penalty decision that had briefly put Forest 2-1 ahead.

Television footage captured the 33-year-old striking the board used to signal substitutions and stoppage time. An FA spokesperson confirmed he later accepted a misconduct charge, having been accused of “acting in an improper manner around the tunnel area”.

The flashpoint came at the end of a night when almost everything that could go wrong for Liverpool on the touchline seemed to do so. The fourth official’s board malfunctioned during the second half, leaving Liverpool unable to make changes despite the ball going out of play three times with the score at 1-1.

As Jürgen Klopp’s side waited to introduce substitutes, Forest pounced. Liam Delap took a quick throw-in, Neco Williams burst into the box and went down under pressure as Alisson rushed out to close him down. The referee pointed to the spot. Morgan Gibbs-White buried the penalty to give Oliver Glasner’s side a 2-1 lead.

The sense of injustice only deepened days later. On Wednesday, the Key Match Incidents panel released its findings and ruled that the penalty should not have been awarded.

By then, the damage to Liverpool’s evening – and to the fourth official’s board – had already been done.
