While a £70 million deal for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba nears completion, attention has shifted to the left-back spot. Michael Carrick’s squad still requires adjustments following errors by veteran Luke Shaw that exposed defensive weaknesses.
Initially, United targeted Newcastle’s Lewis Hall to bolster defense, but Newcastle is unwilling to sell the former Chelsea player. This forced United to explore other options, bringing them to Catalonia where Balde is now a prime candidate, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Balde Chooses to Leave Barcelona
Reports from Jijantes reveal that Balde has decided to end his tenure at Barcelona. A La Masia academy product, he played an important role in the club’s recent title win but doubts his future prospects under head coach Hansi Flick.
Last season, Balde started 21 league matches but missed 10 games due to hamstring and muscle injuries. With Joao Cancelo returning on a free transfer, competition for the left-back position has increased. In light of this, Jorge Mendes is actively working to facilitate a move, and initial talks with Manchester United have begun.
Flick Addresses Transfer Speculation
“He’s a player of immense quality, and it’s important to know if he’s confident he can compete in his position. That’s what I want to see from all my players,” said Hansi Flick, ahead of Barcelona’s match against Elche.
The German coach highlighted the need for full commitment, emphasizing teamwork over individual concerns during the club’s transition period. He added, “We have to play as a team; only then will we achieve success. I need everyone to be one hundred percent.”
Uncertainty Remains Until Transfer Window Closes
The situation at Camp Nou remains unsettled as the transfer deadline looms. Flick did not dismiss the possibility of further exits, acknowledging ongoing structural changes within the club.
“We’re making a lot of changes within the club, so we may have to wait until the transfer window closes. When you bring in new players, you must also think about strengthening the team. The players understand the situation clearly, and now we wait to see what happens,” he said.
