Ajax Part Ways with Owen Wijndal as Left-Back Reshuffle Continues
Ajax have parted company with Owen Wijndal with immediate effect, drawing a sudden line under a spell in Amsterdam that never quite lived up to its billing.
The 26-year-old left-back, once signed as a long-term solution on the flank, had seen his route to the first team completely blocked. With no realistic prospect of minutes, both club and player agreed to terminate his contract, Voetbal International reports. His next destination is still unknown.
Contract Torn Up, Wage Bill Eased
Wijndal’s deal at the Johan Cruyff ArenA was due to run until mid-2027. Ending it now gives Ajax breathing space in their wage structure and underlines how decisively the club has moved on at left-back.
The shift has been clear all summer. Ajax brought in Caio Henrique and Jofre Torrents to strengthen the position, and both quickly jumped ahead of Wijndal in the hierarchy. Henrique had already nudged in front in recent weeks. Then came the more telling sign.
In the 0-4 win over Telstar, 19-year-old Spaniard Torrents came off the bench to make his mark. Wijndal did not move. He stayed on the bench for the full match, a silent confirmation of his new status on the fringes.
