How We Chose the Best

FourFourTwo gathered experts who rated midfielders between 1 and 10 points, focusing on pure central midfield roles rather than attacking or defensive midfielders. The panel considered current form, ability, past year performance, and historical influence, with some weight given to European stats like progressive passing and duel wins. Thirty-five players were evaluated, and the top 20 made the final list. Some borderline players were placed according to whether they leaned more defensively or offensively.
