Spanish Super Cup 2027: Istanbul to Host with Matches Across Three Turkish Stadiums
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed that the 2027 Spanish Super Cup will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from February 2 to 6. This announcement was made after RFEF president Rafael Louzan signed the hosting agreement in Istanbul, marking a significant change in venue for the competition.
Teams and Venue Details
This edition features four teams: La Liga champions Barcelona, Real Madrid, Copa del Rey winners Real Sociedad, and Atletico Madrid. Originally planned for Saudi Arabia, the tournament moved to Istanbul due to scheduling conflicts with the Asian Cup.
The matches will take place across three famous Istanbul stadiums with a total capacity of around 150,000 spectators:
- Chobani Stadium (Fenerbahce) – 48,000 seats; hosts Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid semifinal on February 2
- Besiktas Tupras Stadium – 42,590 seats; hosts Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid semifinal on February 3
- Ali Sami Yen Stadium (Galatasaray) – 52,000 seats; hosts the final on February 6
RFEF President Highlights Cultural Connection
"Today we are presenting much more than an agreement to organise a competition," Louzan said at the Turkish Football Federation headquarters. "It is rather the relationship between two countries that live football with extraordinary passion. Football has that virtue and responsibility: it unites countries and brings cultures closer."
Financial Impact and Expectations
The move to Turkey continues the lucrative format introduced by the RFEF in recent years. The previous tournament in Saudi Arabia generated €51 million, funds that were shared among the participating clubs and used to support grassroots football in Spain.
Organisers expect Turkish fans to warmly welcome the event, creating an exciting atmosphere for the season’s first trophy battle.
With logistics now under focus, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Real Sociedad prepare to compete in Istanbul in early February 2027.
