Real Madrid Signs Yan Diomande for £120m Transfer
Real Madrid have gone back to the top shelf of the transfer market and pulled down another statement signing. This time, it is Yan Diomande – the 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger prised from RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to £120m (€140m).
A seven-year contract. A teenager. A fee that could eclipse what they agreed to pay Borussia Dortmund for Jude Bellingham in June 2023. This is not a quiet rebuild. It is a reset done at full volume.
Beating Europe to the punch
For months, Paris St-Germain had circled Diomande. They pushed hard, they bid big. A £102.5m offer went in. Leipzig said no. On Sunday, PSG walked away.
That opened the door, and Real Madrid did what Real Madrid do when they truly want a player: they finished the deal.
Liverpool had tried to get there first. With Mohamed Salah gone, Anfield needed a new right-sided star and Diomande was high on their list. An initial £69m bid in June was turned down, and Liverpool never came back with the kind of money that would make Leipzig flinch. Madrid did.
Now the winger who lit up the Bundesliga will be running out at the Bernabéu instead of the Parc des Princes or Anfield.
Mourinho’s new Madrid takes shape
This is not an isolated splash. It is part of a clear pattern under new head coach Jose Mourinho.
Diomande becomes Real’s sixth signing of the summer, joining Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Carlos Espi. That list reads less like a gentle refresh and more like a full structural overhaul.
Mourinho has pace and width in Dumfries and Cucurella, power and presence in Konate, guile and control in Bernardo Silva. Now he has raw electricity in Diomande, a winger who can stretch any back line and decide games on his own.

From Ivory Coast to the Bernabéu
Diomande’s rise has not followed the traditional European academy script.
He left Ivory Coast for an academy in the United States before crossing the Atlantic to join Leganes in 2025. Later that year, Leipzig moved quickly, sensing a talent that would not stay under the radar for long.
They were right. In the 2025-26 season, Diomande exploded.
Named the Bundesliga’s Young Player of the Season, he scored 12 goals and delivered eight assists in the league. Those numbers matter, but it was the way he did it – the direct running, the fearlessness in one-on-ones, the decision-making in the final third – that dragged him into the orbit of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Leipzig, as so often, became a staging post rather than a final destination.

The rest of Europe took proper notice at the World Cup.
Diomande featured in all four of Ivory Coast’s matches as they battled through to the quarter-finals, only to be knocked out by Norway. He did not dominate the tournament, but he did not look out of place either. At 19, he carried himself like a player who expects to be at this level for a long time.
Those performances, layered on top of his club form, hardened the conviction inside Madrid that this was the moment to strike. Leave it a year, and the bidding war might have been even more ferocious.
A record fee and a heavy shirt
If all add-ons are triggered, Diomande’s fee will surpass the £115m (€133.9m) Real agreed for Bellingham. That is the scale of the bet.
Real Madrid do not just buy players; they buy eras. In Diomande, they see a winger who can define one.
The numbers are huge, the contract is long, the expectations will be brutal. But this is the club that thrives on exactly that kind of pressure.
