Real Madrid Dismiss Rodri and Olise as Mourinho Seeks Reinforcements

Real Madrid have drawn a clear line through two of the summer’s most persistent rumours. Rodri and Michael Olise, long touted as potential marquee arrivals at the Bernabéu, are not part of the plan.

According to The Athletic, club sources insist Rodri is not on Madrid’s agenda, despite the Manchester City midfielder’s dominant form for Spain and his status as best player at the 2026 World Cup. That stance cuts sharply against a wave of recent reports in Spain, including from Marca, claiming the player is keen to wear the white shirt and that sections of the board are pushing Florentino Pérez to explore a deal.

The noise has been loud. Rodri’s history in La Liga with Atlético Madrid, his tactical intelligence, his ability to dictate games at the highest level – all of it made him an obvious name to link with a Real side looking to stay on top of Europe. Yet inside the club, the message is blunt: he is not being considered this window.

The same answer greets Michael Olise.

The Bayern Munich winger has also been repeatedly connected with a move to Madrid, but The Athletic reports no change in the club’s position. Real Madrid continue to deny any negotiations with Bayern, and those inside Valdebebas are adamant that Olise is not an active target.

The club had already gone public once, issuing an official statement rejecting claims they were in talks to sign the France international. Behind the scenes, that line has held. Those briefed on the strategy say bringing Olise in this summer is viewed as unrealistic and not something the hierarchy are prepared to pursue at this stage.

All of it feeds into a broader picture: this is not a summer of wild improvisation in the Spanish capital.

José Mourinho, back in charge and intent on sharpening the squad for another tilt at major honours, has asked for a new defender and an additional midfielder. He wants depth, steel, and a couple of precise upgrades rather than a full rebuild.

The board see it similarly, but from a different angle. In their view, most of the heavy lifting in this window has already been done. The priority now is trimming the squad, moving players out, and only then revisiting the market if the right opportunity aligns with both finances and the existing structure of the team.

For now, that means no Rodri. No Olise.

Real Madrid have made their choice: refine, not revolutionise. The question is whether that restraint will look like prudence or missed opportunity when the season’s pressure starts to bite.
