Philippe Coutinho has officially signed with Santos FC until the end of the current season, reuniting with his former Brazil teammate Neymar. This move comes after Coutinho parted ways with Vasco da Gama earlier this year.

Coutinho and Neymar, who have shared the pitch since their youth days and represented Brazil together at the 2018 World Cup, will now link up again at club level. Coutinho’s Search for a Fresh Start
After leaving Vasco da Gama, Coutinho had been without a club, having announced his exit in February citing mental exhaustion and a need for a break. Now, Santos offers him a new platform to showcase his skills and regain form.
From Anfield Star to International Journeyman
Coutinho’s career has been marked by impressive spells across Europe. His standout years came at Liverpool, where he became the creative force behind the team, scoring 54 goals and providing 44 assists in 201 appearances. His performances earned him a £142 million transfer to Barcelona in January 2018, shortly after Neymar’s departure from the club.
Despite facing challenges at Barcelona, Coutinho won two La Liga titles and enjoyed a successful loan period at Bayern Munich. There, he lifted the Champions League trophy in 2020 and notably scored twice in Bayern’s remarkable 8-2 quarter-final victory over Barcelona.
Return to England and Move Back to Brazil
Seeking to reignite his career, Coutinho returned to the Premier League with Aston Villa, initially on loan in early 2022 before making the move permanent that summer. While showing flashes of brilliance, he struggled to secure a consistent starting role. Though his contract was set to run until 2026, Villa agreed to an early transfer back to Brazil, allowing Coutinho to join Vasco da Gama ahead of schedule. His time there ended with him becoming a free agent before signing for Santos.
Santos Looks to Coutinho for a Boost
At Vasco, Coutinho made 124 appearances and scored 22 goals across all competitions. Santos currently sits 10th in the Brasileirao standings and hopes his experience will help lift the team higher in the table.
