Paris Saint-Germain have Yan Diomande where they want him. Almost.

Personal terms with the RB Leipzig winger are in place, according to Fabrizio Romano, but the French champions are still a long way from shaking hands with the German club. The agreement that really matters – club to club – remains stuck in negotiation.

Leipzig know exactly what they have.

Diomande has just come off a breakout season in the Bundesliga, then carried that form straight into a standout World Cup with Ivory Coast. Nineteen years old, already a key figure for club and country, and operating in a market where elite attacking talent is trading at eye-watering prices. His value has never been higher, and Leipzig are acting like it.

Reports suggest the Bundesliga side will only seriously listen to offers above €130m (£112.2m). That is not a starting point; it is a statement.

Leipzig hold the line

Inside Leipzig, the preferred scenario is simple: keep Diomande in Germany for at least one more season and reward him with improved terms. They want continuity, another year of development, and the chance to build their team around one of Europe’s most exciting young wide players.

For PSG, that is the nightmare outcome.

Letting Diomande sign a new deal and stay put risks turning this summer’s pursuit into next year’s full-blown saga. More suitors, a higher fee, and even less leverage. With the player already open to the move, Paris will feel this is the window to strike – if they can find a number Leipzig will accept.

Liverpool and Arsenal have both been in contact with Diomande’s camp, sounding out the situation and testing the water. Whether they are the unnamed “additional clubs” referenced by Romano is unclear, but their interest underlines the scale of the race around the youngster.

Right now, though, this is PSG versus Leipzig, and the gap is financial.

Liverpool turn to Barcola

At Anfield, the picture is different.

Liverpool’s focus has shifted towards Bradley Barcola, and that alone tells a story about their stance on Diomande. If the club truly believed a deal for the Ivorian was realistic in this window, their energy would not be so firmly directed elsewhere.

Talks between Liverpool and PSG over Barcola have begun, with the Reds exploring whether the France international can be prised away at a price that fits their structure. The European champions, for their part, are already progressing smoothly with a move for Maghnes Akliouche and could yet move again for Leipzig’s brightest talent. That combination points towards a possible exit door for Barcola.

At Liverpool, the pitch is clear: a genuine chance to claim a starting role in a side gearing up to return to a more aggressive, pressing brand of football. For a young winger, that is a powerful offer.

PSG can counter with status. Back-to-back Champions League titles, a squad stacked with quality, and the allure of staying at the heart of a dominant European project. But those same strengths come with a warning: minutes are harder to guarantee.

If Liverpool and PSG can eventually align on a fee, and if Arsenal do not swoop in with a late hijack, the Barcola deal feels far more likely to reach the finish line than any move for Diomande.

Which is why, around Anfield, expectations over the Leipzig star are being quietly cooled.
