Notts County Sign Ishe Samuels-Smith on Loan from Chelsea

Notts County have moved to strengthen their left flank with the season-long loan signing of Ishe Samuels-Smith from Chelsea.

The 20-year-old, comfortable across the left side of defence, arrives as the Magpies step back into League One for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign. It is a calculated move: youth, pedigree and versatility, all in one.

Samuels-Smith spent last season in the Championship with Swansea City, where he made six appearances after returning to Chelsea on a permanent deal from Strasbourg. Those minutes were limited, but they came in a demanding division and under the scrutiny that follows any Chelsea loanee. Notts County are betting that experience will now translate into consistency.

He also brings international grounding, having represented England at Under-20 level. That badge matters in a League One dressing room; it signals a player groomed in high-performance environments, expected to cope with pressure and tempo.

“Ishe is a talented young player who is capable of contributing in both attacking and defensive phases,” said County director of football Richard Montague, speaking to the club’s website.

For a club re-establishing itself in the third tier, this is the type of signing that can quietly shift the ceiling of a season.
